Computer vision techniques for characterization of finger joints in X-ray images Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune inflammatory type of arthritis which mainly affects hands on its first stages. Though it is a chronic disease and there is no cure for it, treatments require an accurate assessment of illness evolution. Such assessment is based on evaluation of hand X-ray images by using one of the several available semi-quantitative methods. This task requires highly trained medical personnel. That is why the automation of the assessment would allow professionals to save time andeffort.

During the taxed process of the lighter design may be given different circumstances that cause various types of defects on the plastic surface of the lighter or on the design printed on it. Detect these defects as soon as possible and eliminate defective pieces in the production chain is of vital importance for the company. The project objective is the development of a prototype inspection system based on artificial vision for the detection of defects on the surface of lighters and taxed made on these surface.

Inspection of automotive service boxes assembly

One of the processes involved in the production of service boxes is the insertion of each fuse on the right position. During this process it is likely to have some mistakes in the fuses positioning (wrong amperage or upside-down numbers). Inspection of printed circuit tracks
During the manufacturing of printed circuits, the process of track drawing is performed. This process consists of attacking a plaque, which is completely covered by copper, with an acid that dissolves all the copper in between the painted tracks. The problem is that sometimes some tracks are also deleted, or broken by the acid, and some holes or other kinds of defects can take place.

Past Projects

Meter vertical dynamics of railway pantograph OCR for water meter
We designed and developed a Computer Vision based system to assess the position of the pantograph in real time. We designed a system for the automatic reading of the water meter, which allows to avoid their manual inspection.
Car dashboard inspection TFT Inspection

We developed a system for the automatic quality assessment of components of car dashboards. Our system checked in real time that all and every single pixels of a TFT display were correct at the exist of the production line.
Electric car charger inspection Thermoformed inspection
Our system inspected all the small components of a charger module, assessing that all of them were correctly connected to their respective places. We set up a system that verifies that the thermoformed containers matched the respective shapes of the objects to be contained.
Car steering inspection LED inspection
Visual inspection was perform in order to discard in real time malfunctioning pieces in a steering mechanism. All the LED elements of an array were assessed, identifying which elements were not working properly, in order to discard incorrect pieces in a production line.

CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY: Automatic analysis of capsule endoscopy images

Intestinal motility assessment with video capsule endoscopy arises as a novel and challenging clinical fieldwork. This technique is based on the analysis of the patterns of intestinal contractions obtained by labelling all the motility events present in a video provided by a capsule with a wireless micro-camera, which is ingested by the patient. However, the visual analysis of these video sequences presents several important drawbacks, mainly related to both the large amount of time needed for the visualization process, and the low prevalence of intestinal contractions in video.
